Iksinskoe bauxite deposit is the largest in Russia. Bauxite extraction enterprise, Severo-Onezhskiy Bauxite Mine was commissioned in 1976 based on the western part of Belovodskaya reservoir of Iksinskoe bauxite deposit. The enterprise is located in Plesetsk district of Arkhangelsk region in the basin of the River Onega, in the middle of its course, 43 kilometers south-west of the district center.
Bauxite and clay are mined by open pit with overburden transportation by rigid dump trucks. The mine has a railroad sidetrack with access to Puksa station of the Northern Railway, 950 kilometers north of Moscow and 250 kilometers south of Arkhangelsk, a major seaport in the North of Russia. The established industrial infrastructure enables extraction and shipment of up to 4 millions tons of fossil per year.
